There will be no blending into the crowd with this cosmetic upgrade to the Pro Staff series. Using their textured and "rubberized" paint, Wilson transformed this Pro Staff 97L CV into a black and white camouflaged stick of choice for advanced players seeking out feel - for the ball as well as to the touch. It has retained the traditional "Pro Staff feel" we've all come to know and love, and now with Countervail added. The result is great control and power, but with increased shock absorption and ball feel over the standard Pro Staff's, which rely on the classic braided graphite alone. For the 97L CV, the normally super dense frame has been lightened ever so slightly to 10.8 ounces, and the balance is 3 points head light. Coupled with the less dense string pattern of 18x16, aka Wilson Spin Effect, this thin beamed frame (23mm/23mm/23mm) can now be whipped through the zone with ease, giving the player the ability to impart extra spin and bend the trajectory of the ball when necessary. The solid and stiff Pro Staff feel still responds accurately to volleys, groundstrokes, serves, and overheads - no twisting and bending in this frame! The extra proprietary layer of carbon integrated into the frame, Countervail, keeps unwanted shock and vibration from traveling up the arm and into the elbow and shoulder, so players familiar with the older models will be pleasantly surprised by just how "quiet" this stick has become. It also translates into more energy going into the 2nd and 3rd sets, which gives you a strategic advantage over your opponents. If you think of the stringbed as a trampoline, then the 50 to 60 pound string tension range gives the wielder more flexibility on whether he or she needs more control (56-60 lbs) or more power (50-55). Players looking to soften up the feel and maximize playability can utilize a multifilament string such as NXT or NXT Power, while players looking for more spin, durability, and control can go with a Luxilon ALU Power polyester string instead. Also, players looking to maximize their game and play a little more like Roger (just a little more - it does not have magical powers...), can opt to use the Champion's Choice brand of string which is a pre-packaged hybrid of Wilson Natural Gut 16g and Luxilon's ALU Power Rough 16g (the textured rough string bites the ball even more for extra revolutions per second).
